I had the chance yesterday to visit a small community in San José-Iquitos on the Itaya river together with the NGO Conapac who support conservation, health and education in the region of Iquitos. The objective was to distribute and explain the usage of a filter that will help families to sanitize their water. Those families live on the river in poverty and even extreme poverty situations. They don’t have access to fresh water and used the river for all purpose. The absence of sanitized water creates a number of issue. The main one is diarrhea. How could children go to school and get an education if one every two days they are sick?

The distribution of the kit is key for those families. It’s simple and work for up to 5 years if well maintained. The family need two buckets with a tap. One bucket is for the dirty water and the second is for the sanitized one.

This solution is a real game-changer for those families.
Seeing the community building their filtering systems was a life experience.

Two questions came to my mind:
Shouldn’t we be grateful every time we go the tap to drink water?
What can I do concretely to help things changing?
